Today’s Highlight: Three Caffe RVV operator PRs opened, 15 MXNet-series PRs under review — the classic-framework adaptation track enters hands-on phase

Date: 2026-09-23 ~ 2026-09-28 Source: caffe PR #1, caffe PR #2, caffe PR #3, MXNet PR list

Between 14:56 and 14:59 Beijing time on 09-28 (within three minutes), contributor Xlawy opened three consecutive RVV operator PRs in the caffe repo (one of two classic-framework repos onboarded on 09-23) — the first substantive code activity in either repo since onboarding:

  • #1 im2col (+113 / -9, 2 files): Splits im2col’s output-row gathering into a scalar helper and an RVV float overload; each row is split into zero-padding and in-bounds segments, selecting unit-stride or strided vector loads based on stride_w, using variable-length e32,m4 blocking; also adapts Protobuf’s single-argument SetTotalBytesLimit API to version 3.6.0 and above.
  • #2 float CPU max pooling (+167 / -24, 2 files): Processes max-pooling inner columns with e32,m4 blocking, using strided loads and strict-greater-than comparisons to update the maximum value and winning-position offset, preserving first-occurrence tie semantics and the -1 sentinel, and unrolling the three-column window; boundaries still go through scalar code.
  • #3 float vPowx (+166 / -1, 2 files): Adds an RVV specialization for non-MKL vPowx<float> — enabling vector log/exp approximation (with double-precision intermediates) when all inputs are normal numbers and the exponent is in [-1, 1]; exponents of 0 and 1 go through direct vector operations; supports blocked in-place calls; falls back to scalar for the entire call when the domain check fails.

All three add specializations guarded by RVV macros and retain scalar fallbacks for non-RVV builds; all are currently open with no review records. Earlier activity on the same track concentrated in the MXNet repo: over two days from 09-23 to 09-24, three contributors opened a cumulative 15 PRs (ww8191201-coder 11, Xlawy 2, 6eanut 2), of which 11 are RVV operator vectorizations — GELU(erf) backward, ReLU backward, softmax, log-softmax, softmin, CTC log-softmax, im2col, col2im, batched cumsum, nearest-neighbor upsampling, and float32 minimum reduction; the other 4 cover performance and build fundamentals (strength reduction of index arithmetic in broadcast_reduce and reduce_with_axis, removal of volatile from the sum reducer, and a request for -fno-math-errno in non-MSVC builds). Several PR descriptions directly cite the SG2044 (RVV 1.0, GCC 15.1) testing context. This series was not covered in previous windows and is recorded here together with the new Caffe activity.

As of the end of the window, all 18 PRs across the two repos remain open, with none merged. Combined with the 09-24 issue’s note to watch whether the two repos were “archived, an adaptation baseline, or a new starting point for work,” this batch provides a provisional answer: the two repos are being used as hands-on bases for RVV adaptation of classic frameworks, with the MXNet series covering the inference backbone operator surface and the Caffe series focusing on convolution and activation infrastructure. The same night, compiler-side RVV activity was carried by tilelang-riscv PR #4 (see 1.1), making RVV the most concentrated technical theme within the organization that day.

1. RuyiAI Stack Progress (PyTorch / Triton / TileLang RISC-V Porting)

Window Overview: Among the 18 repositories in the RuyiAI-Stack organization, only one commit landed on the commit side during this window (ruyiai-daily, resuming pushes); 4 new PRs were opened (3 for caffe, see today’s highlights; 1 for tilelang-riscv); and 1 release on the release side (triton-riscv nightly build). The pytorch main branch synced 20 upstream commits during the window (none RISC-V related, excluded per filtering rules); the pytorch riscv branch, llvm-project, FBGEMM, cpuinfo, VecIntrinBench, IntrinTrans, harness, dsh-osc, torq-tile, skills, pytorch-ci, SyncBots-DeepAgents, and others saw no pushes during the window.

1.1 tilelang-riscv: New RVV Mask and Max Reduction Lowering PR #4 (09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: PR #4, PR list

At 11:41 Beijing time, contributor zxfj12138 opened PR #4 “Add RVV vector mask and max reduction lowering” (+197 / -13, 3 files, targeting main, feature branch topk-rvv-mask-reduction): it adds a lowering path for RVV vector masks and max reduction to TileLang’s RISC-V backend (the branch name points to topk/mask/reduction scenarios). The PR description body has not yet been filled in; the changes speak for themselves, and it is currently open. The repository’s prior backlog is also noted: PR #3 (TileKernels runtime tests and documentation refresh) was merged on 07-16, i.e., the current main head; PR #2 (Codex-compatible RISC-V operator workflow) has been under review without activity since 06-08.

1.2 triton-riscv: “2026-09-27” Nightly Released on Schedule, Routine riscv64 Wheel Update (09-28)

Date: 2026-09-27 ~ 2026-09-28 Source: nightly/20260927-12c2f6a, Releases page

In the early morning of 09-28 Beijing time (corresponding to the “2026-09-27” nightly), triton-riscv published this period’s Nightly (tag nightly/20260927-12c2f6a): assets are CPython 3.12 / 3.13 / 3.14 wheels for triton 3.8.0 (source revision git58895270), covering both x86_64 and riscv64 (manylinux_2_39) architectures, with individual files ranging from roughly 188 MB to 201 MB. This is the latest in the queue’s routine weekly cadence (previous periods: 09-06, 09-13, 09-20). No new commits on the main branch (stalled at 09-14), and renovate dependency PR #84 saw no updates during the window.

1.3 PyTorch fork: main Completes a Batch of Upstream Syncs (20 commits, non-RISC-V); riscv Branch and 8 Open PRs Unchanged (09-28 status)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: riscv branch commits, PR list

The fork’s main branch synced 20 upstream commits during the window (covering routine updates to MPS, CUDA/CUTLASS, ROCm, Profiler, etc., none RISC-V related, not itemized here); the riscv branch saw no new commits (stalled on the evening of 09-20); all 8 open PRs (#23, #35, #36, #38, #43, #46, #48, #51) have update times stalled at 09-21, with no review activity during the window. Of these, the two RVV-related PRs (#46 ATen RVV support, #48 RVV CPU capability) continue to accumulate queue time.

1.4 Tech Intelligence Repository: ruyiai-daily Resumes Pushes, 09-28 Issue Backfills the 09-23 to 09-28 Window (09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: commit 6cdf01f0, 09-28 issue file

At 10:20 Beijing time on 09-28, ruyiai-daily pushed “daily-news: 2026-09-28” — the first issue after a four-day gap following the 09-23 issue (09-24 through 09-27 absent), and a backfill-style coverage: the issue states its research window as 09-23 05:15 to 09-28 09:51. It contains five sections: PyTorch ecosystem, LLVM/MLIR, Triton and TileLang, RISC-V core news, and AI industry news; the RISC-V section covers items including the SG2044 HPC platform (Monte Cimone v3, reporting a peak energy efficiency of 3.08 GFLOPs/W), Buddy FPGA boot verification, DAMO XuanTie DAMO-RV-ATS vector memory access use cases, XiangShan LoadUnit fixes, and sail-riscv double-trap extensions. Whether the daily cadence resumes remains to be confirmed in the next window.

II. RuyiSDK Toolchain and Distributions (Builds, Toolchain, IDE, openRuyi)

Window Overview: Of the 48 repositories in the ruyisdk organization, 6 saw activity during the window: ruyisdk-vscode-extension (2 commits, #257 merged, #259 opened, 0.1.7 released), ruyi-imager (1 commit, nightly channel update), ruyici (PR #13), riscv-gcc (PR #20), board-docs (PR #49), ruyi-backend (4 dependency PRs); ruyi, ruyi-tuner, support-matrix (no merges), llvm-project, packages-index, wechat-articles, docs and others saw no commits or releases during the window.

2.1 ruyici: New macOS Build Support PR #13 (xen0n, 09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: PR #13, ruyici repo

At 17:33 Beijing time, maintainer xen0n opened PR #13 “Add various macOS builds” (21 files, +398 / -91, targeting main) in ruyici, the RuyiSDK build pipeline repository: adding optional native macOS Apple Silicon (aarch64) builds for the crosstool-ng toolchain, with configurable toolchain artifact naming, build volumes, and ct-ng debug mode; unifying target architecture and Linux artifact naming conventions across the toolchain, LLVM, Box64, QEMU, DynamoRIO, and wlink recipes, and enabling normalized “system-architecture” suffixes for ct-ng artifacts plus an expanded GNU RuyiSDK host matrix. ruyici is positioned as the “source package repository for the RuyiSDK official software repository,” with each recipe driven by the ruyi admin build-package workflow.

2.2 riscv-gcc: p-Extension abs Series Lowering Patch PR #20 (TelGome, 09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: PR #20

At 16:02 Beijing time, contributor TelGome opened PR #20 “RISC-V: Lower abs, pabs .. via header operators and fix tests” (11 files, +2415 / -2620, targeting branch p-rebase, feature branch p-fix): converting abs, pabs, and pabd/pabdu to lowering via header operators, migrating p-macc/p-mulh patterns to PV packed-SIMD patterns, and fixing tests. The patch sits on the toolchain’s p-extension workstream; the repository’s default branch (16.1) has seen no commits since 06-24.

2.3 IDE and Tooling: VS Code Extension 0.1.7 Released (#257 Merged), #259 New PR; Ruyi Imager Nightly Build Updated (09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: 0.1.7 Release, PR #257, PR #259, imager nightly channel

VS Code extension: at 13:14 Beijing time, #257 “Fix #254: use IEC units for size formatting” (sisungo) was merged — unifying curl size parsing and display to IEC binary units (KiB / MiB / GiB) and rejecting unknown units; about three minutes later (13:16), 0.1.7 stable was released (0.1.7-beta.1 was released on 09-20, promoted to stable 8 days later), with changelog entries including sidebar transparent icons, semantic version comparison sorting (Platohykj), enhanced package tree search hints (sisungo), and sync-l10n rebuilds; that afternoon (17:48), contributor Platohykj opened #259 “fix: preserve original casing in search query” (5 files, +37 / -16) — preserving the original casing in the search box display and prefill, using only the lowercase value for filtering and cache keys.

Ruyi Imager: the rolling “Nightly Build” channel was updated at 05:21 Beijing time on 09-28 to 1.0.0-nightly.20260927T211458Z.b691eac, with artifacts covering Linux (x86_64 / aarch64 / riscv64), macOS (x86_64 / aarch64), and Windows; maintainer Glavo committed “Bump Gradle to 9.8.0” at 16:06 that day.

2.4 openRuyi: 5 Packaging Maintenance Commits in Main Repo, 4 Batched Commits in ceph-ci; 2026.09 Monthly Announcement Still Not Live (09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 ~ 2026-09-29 Source: openRuyi commit list, ceph-ci commit list, openRuyi news page

The openRuyi distribution main repository ended several days of quiet, adding 5 commits during the window (09-28 09:43 to 14:36 Beijing time): Kai Zhang (Institute of Software, CAS) restored iptables’ arptables / ebtables components (source files taken from Fedora); Z572 added GPG keys for openruyi-repos and adjusted formatting, added a gnupg recommended dependency for openruyi-minimal, and adjusted the pre-commit reuse annotation hook dependency. ceph-ci pushed 4 commits in a batch at 00:22 on 09-29 with the same timestamp: podman runtime cleanup of residual containers with the same name, “ruyi update” reference updates, setting the non-ASan ninja compile pool limit to 24, and repository file cleanup (sunyuechi). The distribution news page still lists the 2026.08 release as the latest, and the 2026.09 monthly announcement did not go live during the window (the second consecutive window).

2.5 openRuyi Images and Kernel Line: kiwi-image Adds riscv64 Image Build Pipeline, kernel-team-tools Prepares 6.18.54-1 Kernel Tag (09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 ~ 2026-09-29 Source: kiwi-image commit b98c9294, kernel-team-tools commit efc9cecb

The image build repository kiwi-image (openRuyi’s image configuration, based on KIWI) added three commits on the morning of 09-28: adding a GitHub Action and local build script for the riscv64 kiwi image (b98c9294), adding openssh client and server (55e4ea6d), and a version bump (2a03a5de) — image builds moving from a local approach toward CI. The kernel team tools repository kernel-team-tools saw two commits by RevySR at the close of the window (09-29 04:30 to 04:31): adding the 6.18.54-1 tag to the manifest, and bumping the linux-lts build environment TAG_NAME from 6.18.52-1 to 6.18.54-1 (isomorphic to the 09-21 6.18.52-1 process).

2.6 Others: Support Matrix Queue Unchanged; board-docs ROS 2 Documentation PR; ruyi-backend 4 Dependency Upgrades (09-28 Status)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: board-docs PR #49, support matrix PR #397, ruyi-backend PR #132

The support matrix saw no new merges, with three under review (#397 RT-Thread Smart, #405 Zephyr, #390 VisionFive2_Lite) whose update times remained at 09-21 to 09-24; board-docs saw one documentation PR #49 “docs: update ROS 2 course catalog paths” (DuoQilai, 2 files); ruyi-backend received 4 dependency upgrade PRs in the early hours of 09-29 (pyjwt 2.15.0, httpx2 2.13.1, sqlalchemy 2.1.1, ruff 0.16.9). The ruyi package manager main repository was silent during the window (no new commits after 0.53.0, PyPI 0.53.0 remains the latest); ruyi-tuner saw no commits or releases (1.9 still in progress, latest Release remains v1.8).

III. Vector Extensions and Operator Optimization (VecIntrinBench / IntrinTrans / FBGEMM)

3.1 Three Dedicated Target Repositories Remain Silent (09-28 Status)

Date: 2026-09-28 (status) Source: VecIntrinBench, IntrinTrans, FBGEMM

All three repositories — covering vector intrinsic benchmarks, intrinsic translation, and low-precision operator libraries — saw no commits during the window: VecIntrinBench’s last commit was 02-13, IntrinTrans 06-25, and the FBGEMM fork 07-13; the same group’s observation targets cpuinfo (05-20) and torq-tile (04-09) were likewise silent. This window’s RVV-related activity was concentrated in classic frameworks (see Today’s Highlights) and the tilelang-riscv lowering path (see 1.1).

IV. Community and Events (Biweekly Report, Forum)

4.1 Forum Daily News Thread Resumes Updates (#2853); Biweekly Report Issue 077 Still the Latest (09-28)

Date: 2026-09-28 Source: news thread #2853, issue 077 thread #2852

The forum resumed its “Open Source Technology Hot News” series at 10:04 Beijing time on 09-28 (#2853); the previous issue was 09-24 (#2851), with no updates from 09-25 to 09-27. Biweekly Report issue 077 (released 09-24) remains the latest, with the next issue not yet live.

4.2 External News and arXiv Zero Hits (09-28 Status)

Date: 2026-09-28 (status) Source: Google News RSS multiple query sets (via proxy), arXiv search

Google News returned zero hits for all Chinese queries (when:3d) and English queries (when:7d) on RuyiSDK, RuyiAI, and 如意 RISC-V; queries for “如意社区” and “openRuyi” returned only irrelevant items (local community Mid-Autumn events, gambling traffic-bait articles, etc.), which were semantically filtered out; the bare query “RuyiSDK” returned historical items from 2024, confirming the channel is functioning normally. arXiv searches (RISC-V with compilation, vector, and inference directions) found no new entries during the window, with the most recent being 09-24’s “Compiler and Hardware Co-Design for Accelerator Architectures.”

V. Trend Observations

5.1 Classic Frameworks: RVV Takes Shape on Two Fronts — From “Merged” to “PR Pile-Up”

When the two repos were merged on 09-23, their purpose was noted as pending observation; within a week, MXNet filed 15 PRs (three contributors) covering 11 RVV operators plus 4 performance and build foundations, and Caffe followed on 09-28 with three RVV operator PRs — the “adaptation” track has now formally made its move in the classic-framework dimension. A notable detail: several PRs directly cite the SG2044 (RVV 1.0, GCC 15.1) test context, indicating this work targets a runnable real-hardware baseline; this contrasts with the RVV patches on the PyTorch fork side (#46, #48), which remain queued — the current push on RVV adaptation is partly bypassing the PyTorch mainline.

5.2 Rhythm Around Mid-Autumn Festival: Post-Holiday Output Concentrated on 09-28

On 09-25 (the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, Mid-Autumn Festival) and the following weekend, submissions from the three organizations came to a near standstill; on 09-28, the first working day after the holiday, output concentrated: 5 commits to the openRuyi main repo, 3 to kiwi-image, 2 to the VS Code extension plus the 0.1.7 release, and ruyiai-daily and the forum news post both resumed the same day — the holiday-driven “trough and rebound” is fully visible across two windows.

5.3 Steady Release Cadence on the Tooling Side

Three tooling lines advanced at their own cadence during the window: the VS Code extension 0.1.7 went stable (8 days after beta), Ruyi Imager updated its nightly channel, and triton-riscv produced its weekly nightly build on schedule; correspondingly, the ruyi-tuner 1.9 line has remained in a “no release but changes in flight” state for two consecutive windows.

5.4 Gaps and Watch Items for This Window

Gaps: The PyTorch riscv branch and open PRs have been silent for consecutive windows (since 09-21); review of llvm-project PR #168 (XTHeadVector fix) has stalled at 09-24; the support-matrix review queue is backlogged (no updates from 09-21 to 09-24); the openRuyi 2026.09 monthly release announcement has not gone live; external news and arXiv returned zero hits. Watch items: first, the review and first-merge cadence for the eighteen MXNet / Caffe PRs; second, whether ruyiai-daily resumes daily delivery; third, progress on the ruyici macOS build and the riscv-gcc p-extension patches; fourth, whether the 6.18.54-1 kernel tag enters official openRuyi builds.
