“Open-Source to Expand Boundaries, Walk Together for a Long Journey” — The 2025 Intelligent Vehicle Basic Software Ecosystem Conference and the 4th China Automotive Chip Conference was grandly held in Chongqing from August 28 to 29, 2025. Governments, scientific research institutions, automotive enterprises, and media gathered in this mountain city to fully improve the open-source vehicle-mounted operating system ecosystem.

On the morning of August 29, the main venue of the Basic Software Ecosystem Conference focused on automotive basic software. Based on the core ecosystem, it worked with elites from all walks of life to further promote the in-depth application of open-source concepts in the automotive industry and discuss the Chinese plan for industrial collaboration and ecological development. Li Weiwei, CEO of Kubuds Technology (abbreviated as Kubuds Tech), and Sun Min, an engineer of the company, were invited to attend the award ceremony of this Basic Software Ecosystem Conference.

Background

In the era of software-defined vehicles, domestic and foreign automakers have successively laid out independent and controllable vehicle-mounted chips and operating systems, and intelligent vehicle-mounted solutions have actively shifted to RISC-V. Against this background, the domestic open-source automotive-grade intelligent operating system Open-Source EasyXMen was officially open-sourced in June 2024, with plans to prioritize support for ARM and RISC-V architectures.

The RISC-V International Foundation proposed the RVA Profile mechanism in 2023, aiming to provide a minimum functional baseline for software and hardware manufacturers to ensure ecological unification. ILP32 is an ABI (Application Binary Interface)/data model of RISC-V, and the ILP32 ABI mainly corresponds to 32-bit general-purpose computing devices (MCUs, lightweight Linux platforms).

With the increasing maturity of the ILP32 ABI, RISC-V presents unlimited possibilities in automotive embedded virtualization. Taking this opportunity, Xuantie of DAMO Academy, together with the PLCT Laboratory and Shanghai Kubuds Technology, took the lead in realizing the hardware implementation of Open-Source EasyXMen (based on the ILP32 ABI) that complies with the RVA Profile in early 2025.
